CCTV Pipe Inspection

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspection is the most widely used pipeline condition-assessment method in the world. A robotic crawler carrying a high-definition camera travels the pipe and records exactly what an engineer cannot otherwise see: cracks, joints, corrosion, intrusions, deposits and the true state of a network that may be decades old. Everything else in trenchless rehabilitation starts here.

How a CCTV survey works

For pipes from about 150 mm to 2,400 mm, a tracked or wheeled crawler is launched through a manhole and driven remotely along the line. Its pan-tilt-zoom camera and LED array record continuous HD video, with on-screen chainage so every observation is tied to a distance from the access point. For smaller building drains and risers from 50 mm, push-rod cameras do the same job. Laser and sonar profiling can be added to measure ovality and sediment depth in large pipes.

What the report gives you

  • Full HD video of every metre, archived for your records.
  • Defect coding to WRc MSCC or NASSCO PACP, with photographs and chainage for each observation.
  • Structural and service condition grades for every section, so priorities are objective.
  • A rehabilitation recommendation: routine cleaning, point repair, lining or replacement, with budget figures.

When to inspect

Before purchasing or taking over a facility, so you know what you are inheriting. After construction, to catch damage before the warranty expires. When blockages or leaks recur. Before any rehabilitation, to design it correctly. And after rehabilitation, to prove it. Many of our clients move to a planned survey cycle of three to five years, which converts emergency repairs into scheduled maintenance.

Robotics beyond the camera

The same crawler platforms carry high-pressure nozzles for jetting, cutters for removing roots and intrusions, and lateral-reinstatement heads that reopen connections from inside a new liner. Inspection, cleaning and repair are one continuous workflow through one manhole.

Applied's inspection capability

We operate crawler and push-camera fleets across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with certified operators and reporting to international coding standards. Reference surveys include Dubai International Airport's DN2400 storm network, 6.8 km of National Water Company trunk sewer, Riyadh Metro station drainage and the pool and drainage systems of Atlantis The Palm and Madinat Jumeirah. A CCTV survey is also the first step of every free assessment we offer. If you have a network you have never seen from the inside, book one.
